Tutors.University connects East Bay middle school and high school students with UC Berkeley students or graduates of UC Berkeley who are experienced tutors.

We currently offer tutoring in the subjects listed below at any level you choose, including AP.  Click on a subject to request tutoring:
Math:  Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Calculus, Computer Science, and other topics
Science:  Physics, Chemistry, Biology
English, Government, or History
Languages: Spanish, French

If the list above does not include the subject you wish to learn, then Contact us and we will try to locate a tutor — a UC Berkeley student — who  tutors in that subject and is available to assist you.  Go to the Contact us page also if you are looking for tutoring to prepare for the SAT or ACT college admission test.

If you send us an inquiry about tutoring and do not hear back within 18 hours, then please contact us again.

Our tutors are full-time students and their time is limited.  So we ask that you observe these guidelines:

  1. Unless you cancel your appointment with your tutor at least 24 hours in advance, you will pay fully for the missed session
  2. If you are late for a session, your time with the tutor may be lessened accordingly.  For example, if you are 15 minutes late for a scheduled 1-hour session, then your time with the tutor may last only 45 minutes. The tutor is available to you only during the time period scheduled for the session.
  3. Tutoring sessions take place within a short walking distance of where the tutor is located.  If the tutor travels a greater distance than that to meet with a student, then the  time spent in transit is compensated at the same rate as the time taken up by the tutoring session.

These are our tutors:

Samantha Diane Zevanove

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from U.C. Berkeley, and I am on the leadership team at Tutors.University.  I’ve taught classes in SAT and ACT preparation and have tutored reading and writing since June 2013, helping students from the first grade through college-level achieve their educational goals. I specialize in essay-writing skills and assist my students with each stage of the writing process.

Evan Ho

I graduated from UC Berkeley, with a major in Molecular and Environmental Biology and a minor in Education, and I’m now teaching at Willard Middle School in Berkeley. I am fluent in Mandarin and enjoy working with students whose first language is Chinese.  I’ve found that tutoring is very effective in helping students do better in their challenging courses.

Marina Gee

This is my second year at UC Berkeley.  My mom was born in Argentina and speaks Spanish as her first language.  Spanish is my second language, but I speak it fluently, and I am passionate about helping students engage in the language I have come to love so much.  I have traveled in Spain, Guatemala, and Argentina and have tutored all levels of high school Spanish, including AP.  Not that I don’t like English too!  I was the editor of my high school newspaper, and I tutor students also in English and math.

Roaya Jannatipour

I am a second year student at the University of California, Berkeley and am currently studying Integrative Biology.  In middle school and high school I tutored and mentored students of ages ranging from 10 to 17 years old.   I’ve tutored high school students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Algebra 2, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics. I helped these students learn a lot, get good grades, and improve their study habits.

Gabe Schumm

I am a third year intended Physics major at UC Berkeley. I am very interested in tutoring high school students in Math and Physics.  Math from Algebra and Geometry, to Precalculus and AP Calculus.  Physics from elementary to calculus-based and AP.  I was a student tutor in high school and have a passion for these subjects, which I will explain to you in a way that you understand.

Jeremy Tucker

I have a Masters from UC Berkeley in Civil and Environmental Engineering and am currently living and tutoring in Manhattan.  I have tutored high school students over the past four years.  From Algebra 1 all the way to Calculus 1 and 2.  I also tutor students who are taking physics and chemistry classes.  I enjoy mathematics and the sciences (and a few other things as well!) and love learning and helping others learn.

Dean Tanioka

I am a third-year undergraduate at Berkeley, majoring in Sociology and minoring in both Education and Public Policy. I have been tutoring math for 4 years now, specializing in geometry, algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus. I have a keen interest in working with a variety of students to assist their learning. I am also currently tutoring at the San Quentin State Prison and the East Bay School for Boys. I look forward to working with you!

Melissa Sur

I’m a sophomore at UC Berkeley, majoring in Molecular Cell Biology with the intention of going to medical school, and am currently working in a psychology/neuroscience research lab. I have experience tutoring high school math and biology and will be happy to help you learn.
